About Voice DNA
Do you feel shy and have a fear of being judged when you try to sing ? Or perhaps you are a confident singer but feel like you could get freer and more creative with your voice ?
Voice DNA is a workshop series that holds a fun, playful and non-judgemental space - where there is no good or bad voice, only opportunities to free and celebrate your natural voice.
You don't need to be a singer to join. The workshop is actually more about sounding than singing - meaning that we let go of the pressure to perform and explore our voice as a vehicle of freedom, expression and wellbeing.
Sessions are suitable for all levels, with a different theme each week.
All sessions include a gentle sound bath where you’ll be invited to rest and relax in meditative soundscapes.
* Free your natural voice * Build confidence * Play, have fun and be creative * Express your emotions through the voice * Release tension, relax and breathe deeply * Tune up with the aid of sound healing instruments such as singing bowls, shruti box and shamanic drum * Experience the joy of sounding in a group * Learn to calm your mind and be more spontaneous * Tap into the healing potential of your own voice
Voice DNA follows a structure of 6 weekly cycles that explore the voice from different perspectives that complement each other. Booking all 6 sessions is a great investment towards developing your singing voice, confidence and creativity.

17.5.18 Jody Paterson wrote a beautiful article titled: 'Voicing Our Freedom' about a Voice DNA session he attended recently. In Jody's words: "This week I participated in a totally beautiful, heart-opening, playful and joyful journey into the world of voice improvisation, led by the exquisitely creative Uran Apak, here are some words about it."
16.5.18 Voice DNA is every Tuesday 7 - 9pm in Hackney Downs / London. All sessions include a gentle sound bath where you’ll be invited to rest and relax in meditative soundscapes.
2.7.17 I am happy to announce that I will start holding Voice DNA sessions from my new home in Hackney Downs. I have a spacious room and a large floor seating area that is great for workshops and private sessions. The flat is above the Pembury Tavern which means there is no issue with making noise and being as wild as we like.
Voice DNA will be running in 6 weekly cycles as before with a different theme each week. I switched to Monday evenings 7 - 8:30 pm which I think is a more convenient time for most people. Here are the upcoming dates:

28.5.16 This week's Voice DNA took place in the beautiful artists' town of Groznjan, which is a gorgeous medieval village in the Croatian mountains. The two sessions I led were part of the International Vocal Arts Workshop. There are a lot of classically trained singers here, my secret mission was to make them forget about their training for a while and take steps towards being free, playful and spontaneous with their voices. It was a surprising challenge for them but they all did really well !
24.4.16 Voice DNA takes place every Thursday between 8:15 and 10:15 pm at The Hive Dalston and the cost of the workshop is 10 pounds (Concessions: 5 pounds for low-waged). Sessions are run on a drop-in basis, however regular attendance is encouraged to achieve a level of confidence and creative freedom.
8.4.16 It's confirmed: Voice DNA will be at The Green Gathering this summer. TheGreen Gathering is the first and best off-grid family renewable community sustainable workshops arts festival celebration held in Chepstow / Wales every August. We will be singing surrounded by beautiful nature and close to a stone circle. Magic ! http://www.greengathering.org.uk/
18.2.16 Voice DNA was recently at Exeter University as part of a seminar titled: "Middle Eastern Music and Contemporary Performance". The theme of our session was sacred sounds and Sufi chanting.
